HYGIENIST CARE

We like to think that our hygienists will become your favourite dental professionals. They are gentle, empathetic and full of knowledge. They are dedicated to helping improve and maintain optimal dental health by offering a range of hygiene services.

Comprehensive Assessment

Do you have gum disease? How bad is it? You’ve been cleaning every day since your last visit, is your dental health improving? Our hygienists can answer these questions for you. By gently probing your gums and taking measurements from 6 sites on each tooth, they identify problem areas that need extra attention. And for those who like a challenge, this provides an overall percentage of healthy teeth, that you can strive to beat next time.

Professional Cleaning

It is very hard to keep your teeth perfectly clean. Plaque grows within hours and mineralises into calculus a day or two later. Both harbour bacteria. Plaque is instrumental in causing tooth decay while calculus causes gum disease. There are also links between gum disease and coronary heart disease. Keeping your teeth clean and free from these deposits is essential for your dental and overall health. It is very challenging to clean in between all your teeth every day, so we are here to give you that regular helping hand. During your appointment our hygienists will gently remove all the plaque and calculus (tartar) by scaling. Their specialised instruments, techniques and training means they can carefully get all those difficult areas clean, so your gums can recover and you can maintain them more easily at home.

Airflow Stain Removal

We are one of the few practices in Wellington to offer Airflow tooth cleaning. The Airflow uses a spray of water and very fine glycine particles to gently remove stains without damaging the tooth beneath. It is especially useful for getting into those small cracks and concavities commonly stained by tea, coffee and smoking. It is also fantastic for cleaning around orthodontic braces.

Tooth Whitening

We offer both ‘in-surgery’ and ‘take-home’ options for whitening teeth. After your professional clean, tooth whitening is a great way to make your smile look fantastic.

Education and Advice

The most important part of managing dental health is how you care for your mouth at home. Home care is where most of your treatment takes place. To get the best results for your efforts, we can show you the areas you need to focus on, tweak your techniques and recommend any products that make the job that little bit easier. Frequently asked questions include:
  • Which is the best toothpaste?
  • Should I use a mouthwash?
  • How do I care for my gums during pregnancy?
  • How do I get rid of bad breath?
  • How do I use an electric toothbrush properly?
  • Should I use a waterpik?
  • How do I floss under my retainer?
  • How do I floss under my bridge?
  • What can I do about my sensitive teeth?
Rest assured, our hygienists have all the answers.

Tailored Recall Schedule

Everyone is different, different shaped teeth, bacteria, diet, cleaining habits and different goals. Our hygienists can tailor the content and frequency of your visits to provide whatever level of care suits you best.

Patients often comment that our hygienists are so wonderfully motivating. They are not here to repremand you, tell you off and leave you feeling guilty or bad. We are all on the same team. They want to help you understand why you need to care for your health and the best way to improve in a positive and constructive way. We want you to leave your visit not only looking good but feeling even better!
